A dash of CAD

We also tried modelling the whole boat in SolidWorks, a project by Joosep. The idea was to find a good setup for the forward bow.

I’ve fiddled with the stem redesign now for a bit and this is what I’ve come up with. I’ve tried to keep it as close to the original as possible. I also added the cabin.

Good day , looking at the bow .I thought a bow like tread lightly or sherpa woul do her good. and maybe you could ask John Welsford what he thinks about it.and I would make it airtight as safety compartment .[if you hit anything upfront.

      Hello, Hilbert!

Well, originally Fafnir has a pram bow such as the Sherpa and Tread lightly, if that is what you meant. These bows are intentional. As far as I know, for Fafnir the consideration was to make the bow as short/blunt as feasible so that it could be built in the confinements of a garage. There have been questions to whether a sharp bow would change anything and JW has said that it ought not to make a difference. We have built a watertight compartment in the bow, but also added flotation foam. We argued that in short waves (Baltic sea) the flat bow would act as a brake. It makes no difference in large (longer period) Ocean waves such as around New Zealand, since the waterline remains untouched.

      Cheers,
      Uku
