Nearing the 50 kg epoxy limit

Hello! Today we had a timing problem. Estonia, together with the rest of the European Union, shifted its clocks back one hour to winter time. This means, as some like to say, “one more hour for sleep.” In any case, it also means that the alarm of the shop turns on one hour earlier. When it got dark outside, we started checking the time to get out before the security gets in. Later, Joosep remember that he had not turned his watch back, so we actually left a little early. That aside. Things are looking good in general. Completing the hull is now a feasible perspective. Soon, we will have smeared 50 kg of epoxy onto the boat. Another 25 kg is probably in order. Lets have pictures:

Wiewport and companionway update

Over the last week the boat got three aditional windows, which means they are all in place now. Our mentor Raivo said that we rushed the process, that Sikaflex would easily stick to the two component paint we will cover the boat with. Just sand it rough forehand. Plus he said that we sould have countersunk both sides of the polycarbonate boltholes, allowing space for expansion and contration of the sealant. Also, there was concern with UV radiation. Sika, though marked UV resistant, will, according to Raivo, go yellow after years. We’ll see. New interior fillets have been put onto the new planks and bulkhead intersections. Plus, the companionway is taking shape. A few photos:

Last weekend of September bares fruit

Well then, all the planks are now on. I don’t know what else to add. I started on the companionway hatch and Joosep worked his way with our thin, but long friend – the epoxy fillet. New planks need lots of that, with glass tape and all. We could have done more, but I was half paralyzed with food poisoning from wednestay to saturday, so our maximum effort was on sunday. Lets have some pictures:

Slightly grainy, but still good. An exercise in vertical lines, fine arts, fine architecture: the deckline tilts right, cabin line tilts left and the companionway hatch tilts right.

Our next plan is to place necessary bracings on the inner side of the planks, do additional sanding and filleting, interior painting and then decking up the boat. Completing the companionway hatch is in the plans as well.
