Back in business

We are back after a long silence. We took a rest, did other things and gained perspective. Now we have the largest planks scarf-joined and the lowest portside stringer steamed in place. The stringer is down at the moment for refurbishing some dangerous knotholes. We are realizing by every screw screwed and every gram of glue glued that the best tools, best wood and best glue actually saves you time and in some parts of the world, time is money so you save money as well. Okay, we uprighted to boat today and are planning on continuing with planking the sides. Here are a few pictures:

Remembering the unsinkable

Today passed 100 years of RMS Titanic sinking in the North Atlantic ocean. A ship that was thought unsinkable. Well, ours is considered unsinkable as well, given that there is enough foam flotation on board. Blue stryofoam is the name of the game which will keep the boat on water, even if it ought to hit an iceberg twenty million times bigger than itself. During this epic day we first lifted out the superstructure of the boat from the building rig. Lifting the hull with two people was not a problem. We beveled the portside chinelog and cut out a plank template. Basically one sheet = one plank, for the lowest plank that is. The upper ones are narrower. Both gunwales are installed and the boat is very solid now, no wobbling when thumped. Here is the evidence:

Logbook

Chinelogs are now installed. Then there is the gunwale on the portside. We have fresh experience with glassing larger panels of plywood, as well as covering them with polyester. The plan is quite straightforward – glass everything on the outside and polyester-cover everything on the inside. Progress has also been done on constructing interior shelves. Probably the best news for us is that now we finally have the 300 kg of lead needed for the keel of the boat. Lets see pictures:
