Happy new year!

Happy new year to all the DIY-ers out there!

Here we go, soon we shall celebrate two years of our build. Two days ago the festivities were embarked by our first plank, which was epoxied on to the port side of the boat. Most of the glassing on the inside has been completed. Now we are working on the starboard. The plywood has been glassed, just need to bevel the stringer, cut the plank to shape and glue it on. We are still pondering on which rudder hinges to get, most likely going to weld our own. Today Joosep filleted the inside of the freshly laid plank, I did work on the starboard stringer. Here are some more pictures:

There is also a new page with a comprehensive build gallery, here.

Double floor

Over the weekend I finished the double floor. It’s a sandwich with buoyancy foam filling and a glossy glass finish for maximum durability and just long enough to fit a skipper. This took around 15-20h over two weekends. Fiberglassing large surfaces is really almost a meditation exercise. You just keep combing the epoxy and try to fight against the voids.

Next steps are to build the aft shelves in preparation for the lowest plank. Also some data: our LOD is 463 cm (63 cm over design due to the choice of a sharp bow over a flat one), the beam is 190cm.

Autumn impressions

Here we go! Finally got the camera down to the boat. Today I glassed about 80% of the cabin roof outside. Joosep has been working on glassing the transom and shelves, which are to go into the boat. All the windows have now been cut and most of the inside filleting done, most. Some still to go. Here are some pictures after a while. The blue curtain is there to protect the rest of the workshop from the saw/glass dust. That stuff just gets everywhere. Pictures:
